WWW activities & Emerging Networking Technologies
Advanced
Informatics possesses major knowledge on the exploitation of WWW in
every-day life, and also investigates the potential usage of the emerging
multimedia technologies in innovative applications. As far as contribution
on WWW issues is concerned, we have dealt with the installation of several
WWW servers across Greece and the advertising of numerous companies through
WWW. We currently focus on new trends on the Internet, such as Electronic
Commerce, Advertising and the trailing issues that arise, like Security
on the Internet, Billing Policies, etc.
Multimedia systems & Educational software
As far as educational software is
concerned, Advanced Informatics is interested in the development of Intelligent
Tutoring Systems, Authoring Systems, Expert Systems and Virtual Reality
applications for the training of personnel such as engineers, technicians,
project managers etc. Advanced Informatics has been involved in the context
of COMMET project - GESEM. The project has provided an authoring environment,
called GEPRIAM. Nowadays, Advanced Informatics addresses the knowledge
enrichment, the exploitation of technology on Intelligent Tutoring and
multimedia systems and the dissemination to possible exploitation channels
in the Greek market and industry. Electronic Commerce In the context of e-commerce Advanced Informatics has tried & used emerging technologies conserning secure transactions through Internet. Advanced Informatics has used and developed sites conserning secure sales through Internet with user-friendly environments. The latest goal is the design & impementation of a City-based Virtual Mole. In this project custom er may have interactive communication with the stores of their area and can also buy goods, through a Virtual 3D environment. On the other hand salesmen may make on-line updates of their stock and prices. This project is going to be implemented under VRML 2.0 and the first prototype will be ready in 2000 Systems Software In
the area of Systems Software, Advanced Informatics is mainly working
on the analysis of the software that controls embedded/parallel systems.
Advanced Informatics has participated in the ESPRIT project OMI/TotEm,
in the context of which major research activities involved studying and
analysing numerous scheduling and resource allocation policies, commonly
applied by such systems. Those activities resulted in:
The
Schedulability Analyser performes static analysis based on the Rate Monotonic
Scheduling theory. It provides a collection of quantitative methods that
enable system developers to examine the timing behaviour and to design
feasible alternatives for a system that uses any fixed-priority scheduling
policy. Advanced Informatics also developed a Behavioural Simulator,
which offers a dynamic aspect of the timing behaviour for a set of tasks
running in a specific system. The simulation of the system's scheduling
and recource allocation policies over a certain time period provides the
analytic representation of the tasks' behaviour in the examined system.
Another important activity is the development of specialised software
for target processors. Specifically, Advanced Informatics has produced
software for instrumenting single functions and performing timing measurments
on THOMSON-SGS ST90R40 and SIEMENS SAB80C167 processors.

Our stuff consists of Computer Engineers, whose interests and activities have to do with real-time and paralel systems, techiques of monitoring and analysis of performance, expert systems, telematics and user-interface design. Our collaboratos are experienced researchers and scientists with high know-how in the management of European projects, partially funded by the European Union. Their contribution has been appreciated, so they have become evaluators and reviewers of the new proposals of the European Union in the Information Society. |
